Abu-Bakarr Jalloh

Abu-Bakarr Jalloh is currently working part-time as an editor with Deutsche Welle’s English for Africa Service. He is simultaneously studying for a master’s degree in international media at a Deutsche Welle joint degree program with University of Bonn, and Bonn-Rhein-Sieg Applied Science University in Bonn, Germany.

He has a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone.

Mr. Jalloh has worked as a video journalist for Associated Press Television News and has produced mini-documentary films that were shown on film festival in Europe and North America.

Along with Racing Horse Production based in New York, he worked as Line Producer for a major documentary film titled “War Don Don” centered on the trial of ex-RUF leader Issa Sesay at the Special Court for Sierra Leone. The film has won a number of awards including two Emmy nominations and a SXSW award for best edited film. War Don Don, a title stemming from the local lingua franca Krio, has been screened in major film festivals around the globe.

In Sierra Leone, Mr. Jalloh reported series of stories for ABC-TV, a private television company in Freetown. He contributed to the publication of Salone Times Newspaper in Freetown and he served as Editor-In-Chief for Aureol Touch magazine, a student semester magazine published by the Mass Communication Department at Fourah Bay College, USL.

A number of his films have appeared on Current Television in the United States and excerpts of his work were screened on “Unreported World” a British Foreign Affairs program on Channel 4 TV and the British Broadcasting Corporation Television BBC-TV.
